The Lovat Shield goes back to Dingwall for the second year running
The Dingwall Gaelic Choir has won the premier choral competition at the Royal National Mod for the second year running with only one point separating themselves and the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association. There was high praise from the adjudicators for the level of Gaelic in all of the choirs, and Dingwall gained the highest marks for music as part of their winning score.
Gaelic judge Gillebride MacMillan said: “The competition was tremendous and we were very happy with the very good Gaelic we heard from the choirs, and their tutors are to be praised also for their part in the success.”
Kirsteen Menzies, the Dingwall conductor said: “The competition was superb and very close. We were just lucky that we won. The prescribed song sat with us very well, and we couldn’t have chosen a better song than Cabar Fèidh for our own choice, as the song has such a strong connection with the Dingwall area.”
Dingwall won the Lovat last year as well, which was Kirsteen’s first year as conductor. Before that her father Hamish was the conductor for 37 years. The London Gaelic Choir was third in the competition.
