Thèid an deasbad mu dheireadh air Bile Ath-leasachaidh na Croitearachd a chumail ann am Pàrlamaid na h-Alba an-diugh (Diardaoin).
Thèid 200 atharrachadh a chur mu choinneimh bhall mus cumar bhòt air a' Bhile.

CASTLE OF MEY OPENS DOOR FOR CEILIDH TO RAISE FUNDS FOR MÒD (1.7.10)
A Ceilidh, to raise funds for the National Mòd, will be held in the Castle of Mey tea rooms on Friday 2nd July with the gardens open prior to the event. Mòd Gold Medalist, James Graham and one of Scotland’s finest female Gaelic singers, Rachel Walker, will provide the entertainment along with a variety of local artists including Erica Sinclair on clarsach and Carol-Anne Mackay on bagpipes. Tickets are available at the Castle Tea Rooms and shop or from Carol-Anne Mackay.
The local organising committee need to raise £20,000 to support An Comunn Gaidhealach to run the National Mòd and already the committee has reached the half way mark with more fund raising events in the pipeline to reach their target.
Members of the local organising committee and friends have been working hard and various fund raising events have been held over the last few weeks.
Christine Stone, an active member of the local organising committee, has just completed a sponsored cycle – cycling from Melvich to Castletown raising £300, while Ann Manson, a member of the Fringe committee, and friend Lili Sinclair have completed a 12 mile sponsored walk collectively raising £300.
Not to be outdone a further 14 volunteers undertook a sponsored walk from Calder to Dorerry Hill and back and have raised in the region of £1000.
Local ceilidhs have been organised, the most recent held in Scotscalder on the 25th June featuring Alasdair Bain, with the Clachnabrochan Ceilidh Band adding to the balance. Further ceilidhs will take place in August as well as the Mòd hosting the Blas Festival concert in the Weigh Inn, Thurso on 11th September.
Other events which have added to the fundraising total was a charity bingo session and disco held in March and April, and donations are coming in from various organisations including the Edinburgh Caithness Society, Wester Ross branch of An Comunn Gaidhealach, Victor Fraser Accountants and Thrumster based Mackenzie Removals.
Raymond Bremner, Convenor of the local organising committee said, “The fund raising support we have received has been fantastic. There are a lot of people doing all sorts of things to help. We are grateful to everyone who has taken part in the fund raising activities and also to those who have sponsored these events. Without these funds it would be impossible to host the Mòd in Caithness and we want to ensure that those who are attending the Mòd in October leave with a long-lasting positive impression of their time in Caithness.”

Bòrd na Gàidhlig welcomes Gaelic Medium Early Years education report
A report on Gaelic Medium Early years education published by the Scottish Government is being welcomed by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the main organisation leading Gaelic development.
Research was undertaken to establish existing provision, identify gaps and what development is needed in Gaelic medium early years education.
The report found that there were 127 providers of Gaelic-medium early years education or childcare, mostly in Highland and the Western Isles and that the vast majority of children attending Gaelic medium provision come from English-speaking homes.
The study highlighted a number of challenges that face Gaelic medium early years education such as recruiting staff who are fluent Gaelic speakers and trained early years practitioners and also a limited supply of Gaelic medium preschool resources.
Adam Ingram, Minister for Children and Early Years, said:
“We welcome this very helpful report and we are grateful to the researchers for their efforts. The Bòrd’s new Action Plan includes a commitment to develop an early years initiative and this report is a useful contribution to this important work. We look forward to working with the Bòrd on the new initiative.”

Bòrd na Gàidhlig support for Community-based Gaelic Arts Projects
Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the principal organisation charged with developing and supporting Gaelic is to support Gaelic community-based arts projects through a new fund, Tabhartasan Ealain.The new fund will support Gaelic arts activity such as drama, new writing and learning through arts in communities, helping to increase the number of Gaelic speakers by providing more opportunities for people to use Gaelic.
Brian Ó hEadhra, Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Scottish Arts Council’s Gaelic Arts & Culture officer said:
“We would like to support projects such as community drama groups, encourage new Gaelic writers of all kinds from fiction to song, storytelling and the use of new technologies to increase the use of Gaelic and also encourage people to learn the language. The Gaelic arts make an essential practical contribution to many areas we have outlined in our action plan, Ginealach Ùr na Gàidhlig. Projects that will help Bòrd na Gaidhlig achieve the commitments within in this plan will be more likely to receive support.”
Up to £2,500 of funding support can be requested for projects which will take place before the 31st March 2011. The closing date for applications is August 6, 2010.

University sets out its stall with first national TV advert in Gaelic (23.6.10)
GAELIC is being used to help lure students to the Highlands and Islands in what is believed to be the first national TV advertisement in the language.
A four-week advertising campaign in both English and Gaelic started last night for Channel 4 and Five viewers in Scotland.
The Think UHI film promotes the prospective University of the Highlands and Islands, which currently has about 8,000 students in 13 colleges and research centres.
The series of 30-second adverts, which are costing UHI £25,000, will be seen in breaks between programmes such as Big Brother, Deal or No Deal, Hollyoaks, Desperate Housewives and Neighbours.
They will help the university-in-waiting to reach out beyond the traditional Gaelic heartland and into the cities.
At the last census in 2001 there were 58,652 Gaelic speakers, but 92,400 who could speak, read or understand the language spread across the country. While half live in the Highlands, Western Isles and Argyll and Bute, more than 11,000 (19 per cent) of Gaelic speakers live in greater Glasgow and there are also large concentrations in Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen.
The Scottish Government has called for radical steps to create a new generation of Gaelic speakers in Scotland.
The public sector, communities and individuals are being urged to support initiatives to maintain it as one of the country's official languages.
Professor Matthew MacIver, UHI's chairman, said: "I am simply delighted that Gaelic will be used in our advertising campaign as it illustrates the different academic opportunities we provide for students.
"At UHI, we are committed to the Gaelic language. Gaelic is an integral part of the culture of the Highlands and Islands and as such will play an important part in the future development of the UHI.
"This is a first for the UHI and it sends out a clear message that, as an emerging university, we will be a different academic institution from others."
Last year UHI was the first higher education institution to be instructed by the Scottish Government to produce a Gaelic language plan.
The plan is due to be published later this year.
James Fraser, the UHI principal, said: "We are flying the flag for a proud language and culture … Whether you can understand Gaelic or not, our advert will bring it to the attention of thousands of people through one of the most powerful communication media."
The Gaelic version of the advert is voiced by Gilleasbuig Feargasdan, a tutor at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic college in Skye, which is part of the UHI network. It can be viewed online at www.thinkuhi.com.
Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the national Gaelic development agency, wants to treble the number of Gaelic schools from two to six within two years under plans to increase the number of people speaking the language.
An action plan published this year also envisages a fourfold increase in the number of teachers training in Gaelic, and an additional 2,000 adults learning the language by April 2012.
The board wants to drive up the number of speakers from 58,000 in 2001 to 65,000 by 2021 and 100,000 by 2041.
The proposals include a national campaign to encourage the use of Gaelic and efforts targeted in five areas over the next two years: support for parents, promotion, adult learning, and education in the 0-3 and 3-18 age groups.

SCOTLAND v DENMARK WOMEN’S WORLD CUP QUALIFIER LIVE ON BBC ALBA (22.6.10)

BBC ALBA will follow the nation’s World Cup hopes as the channel screens live coverage of the women’s qualifier between Scotland and Denmark.
Coverage of the match from Rugby Park, Kilmarnock, will begin this Thursday, June 24th at 7.15pm with kick-off at 7.30pm.
Joining the Spòrs team as trackside analyst for the match will be former SFA chief executive Gordon Smith, who will provide his insight on the women’s national side and the action on the pitch.
Scotland remain unbeaten in group 3, with five wins from five matches. Their latest victory came on Saturday as they beat Bulgaria 5-0 in Sofia, with goals courtesy of Jennifer Beattie, Julie Fleeting, Kim Little, Rachel Corsie and Pauline Hamill.
The result leaves Anna Signeul’s side one point behind group leaders Denmark, but with a game in hand over the leaders. The Danes will travel to Scotland in confident mood after thumping Greece 7-0 at the weekend.
However, a win on Thursday would put Scotland two points clear in the table with two games to play and give the team a great chance of making it to the finals of a major championship for the first time.
