  • An taghadh: dòchas ri bhòt mòr, siostam ùr, saoghal ùr (4.5.10)

    Le Alasdair H Caimbeul

'S an latha mòr a' teannadh dlùth, dh'iarr sinn air sianar luchd-bhòtaidh beachd a thoirt dhuinn air iomairt an taghaidh. Shuath iad air farsaingeachd chuspairean – bhon t-siostam bhòtaidh fhèin gu crathadh a thoirt air dòigh beatha a h-uile duine againn. Tha e soill-eir cuideachd gu bheil cuid a' smaoineachadh nach eil poilitigs Westminster a' buntainn ri Alba mar a bha roimhe.

  • TOP TALENT FOR CEILIDH IN AID OF MÒD (29.4.10)

As part of the fund raising efforts for the National Mòd 2010, top talent will be performing at a Ceilidh in Mackay’s Hotel, Wick on Saturday 1st May.

Music will be provided by the Dennis Manson dance band. Former gold medallists of the Mòd, local man, Raymond Bremner and Riona Whyte, from the Isle of Mull, will be performing alongside renowned fiddler, Carolanne Mackenzie, the Caithness Junior Pipeband and the Elise Lyall school of dancers.

The event will also see the launch of piping duo’s Craig and Andrew Harvey’s new CD - Tartan Paint – released by Caithness-based Pan Records as well as performances by two members of the junior Mòd Rebecca MacDonald (Isle of Skye), who will be competing this year in the 13-15 years traditional junior competition, and junior piper, Crisdean MacDonald.

Murray Lamont, Mackay’s Hotel, Wick and Chairman of the North Highland Tourism said “We were delighted to host this event which is part of the fundraising efforts of the Mòd local organising committee in the run up to the National Mòd 2010 in Caithness. Hosting the National Mòd 2010 will help promote Caithness as a great place to visit and hopefully this will bring longer term benefits to the tourism industry in this part of the country.”

Raymond Bremner, Convenor of the local organising committee said “The Ceilidh on the 1st of May will give people a flavour of what they are likely to hear and see at the National Mòd in October. Time is moving on and the Mòd is less than six months away and the local committee are working hard to ensure that there is a wide and varied programme of activities in place over the next few months. We hope local people will come out in numbers and support the tremendous efforts of those who are working hard behind the scenes to promote the Mòd and of course the area in which we live.

Nina MacKellar, former Mòd gold medalist and representative of the MacAllan Distillery will also be appearing to present the local organising committee with a product sponsorship to help boost fund raising efforts. And to boost the funds even further members of the Wester Ross Branch of An Comunn Gàidhealach will hand over a cheque from monies raised at an event held last week.

Raymond Bremner added “We are delighted with the support shown by the various sponsors which is a real boost to us. The willingness to get involved and to support local activities has been amazing and we hope that this will continue over the coming months.”

The Ceilidh held this weekend is expected to attract people from all over Scotland including Wester Ross, Lochaber, Isle of Mull, Morayshire, Argyll and Inverness.

'S ann le Bòrd na Gàidhlig a tha mygaelic.com ga ruith.

"Bha dùil againn uile nuair a chaidh sinn tro lèir-mheas air BBC ALBA, aig deireadh na bliadhna an-uiridh, gum biodh co-dhùnadh ann faisg air deireadh na bliadhna no toiseach na bliadhna seo," thuirt Cathraiche Bhòrd na Gàidhlig, Art MacCarmaig.

"Tha sinne a' smaoineachadh gum bu chòir dhuinn cuideam a chumail air Urras a' BhBC aig an ìre seo, agus 's e sin as coireach gu bheil sinn air ath-chuinge eile a chur air dòigh.

"A rèir 's na tha sinne a' tuigsinn, a' mhòr-chuid de na litrichean a chaidh a chur a-steach gu Urras a' BhBC aig àm a' cho-chomhairleachaidh bho chionn greis, bha iad a' toirt làn-taic do BhBC ALBA air Freeview.

"Tha mòran an Alba nach fhaca BBC ALBA riamh fhathast, agus 's e sin as coireach gu bheil sinn ag iarraidh cuideam a chur air Urras a' BhBC.

"Cha do thòisich an ath-chuinge ach aig deireadh na seachdain, agus tha mi a' smaoineachadh gu bheil faisg air 200 ainm air an cur ris aig an ìre seo.

"Tha ath-chuinge no dhà eile air a bhith ann ron a seo, agus tha sin air na ceudan, agus 's dòcha na mìltean de dh'ainmean a chruinneachadh," thuirt e.
